About DogTraining101
A calm, free coach for new dog owners — built around modern, evidence-based positive reinforcement.
Our approach
DogTraining101 uses only force-free, reward-based methods (often called R+ or LIMA — Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive). We never recommend prong collars, shock/e-collars used punitively, alpha rolls, leash pops, scruffing, or dominance framing.
This isn't a stylistic preference. Major veterinary and behavior organizations — including the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior (AVSAB), the American Animal Hospital Association, and the European College of Animal Welfare and Behavioural Medicine — all advise against aversive training tools because of documented risks to welfare and behavior.
When to see a professional
DogTraining101 is a kind starting point, not a replacement for hands-on help. For fear, aggression, resource guarding, separation distress, or sudden behavior changes, please reach out to:
- Your veterinarian (rule out pain or medical causes first)
- A certified force-free trainer (CCPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, IAABC)
- A Veterinary Behaviorist (DACVB) for serious cases
Who built this
DogTraining101 is an independent, ad-free educational project. The coach is an AI assistant guided by a strict positive-reinforcement system prompt and routed through a vetted model provider.
